There are generally 3 types of files in the mail queue (as I recall).
1. The queue file. (eg. 010AE18381C.qf). There is 1 per message. This
generally has information about where the message is going.
2. The data file. (eg. 010AE18381C.df). This is the body of the email
message.
3. There is a third type of file, I forget the suffix, but it sometimes
exists when an email is being processed.

First, shut off the sendmail daemon.
You should only have .df and .qf files and no file should be older than 5
days. In the past, I would simply just remove any old files. I used to find
a number of .df files without a corresponding .qf.
