GPS Software

I have a cheap Navman GPS receiver for my laptop that I was using for a
Wi-Fi project. I am looking into using it as a GPS navigation system with
XP or maybe Ubuntu, does anyone know of any good mapping programs? The
one that comes with the receiver is pretty slow to update the map as you
drive.
