Install Ubuntu on Windows as an Application

Wubi really does work as advertised- with minimal impact in the Windows
system. Wubi uses the Windows boot loader and writes itself inside the
Windows file system. There isn't even a big performance hit doing whatever
transmogrification is required to abstract the NTFS files to look like they
belong under Linux. The installer gives you the choice of a few Ubuntu
flavors, including the Studio (multimedia) edition.

It is a lengthy install, though. It starts with an installation executable,
then pulls down the relevant distro, then installs and configures. Hours,
not minutes.

For those who are scared of burning CD's, partitioning, and changing
their Operating System -- but would still like to try Linux -- please
check out Wubi!
