Any comment on Asterisk?

We put in ATA -- analog telephone adapters -- to reuse existing
phones. They run about $30-50 per port, depending on how dense
you need it to be and what features. If you want to buy Cisco IP
phones, they'll run $150 and up. There are some cheaper IP
phones from Linksys/Sipura; you can mass-deploy those for about
$100 each.

Asterisk does not put much strain on modern hardware. Whatever
your basic server hardware is will probably do just fine.
