best method to share a filesystem remotely

 Hi,

I'm interested in setting up a small filesystem for a family member to
access both at home and when travelling (with their linux laptop). I'm
trying to make this a easy (and secure) as possible. Only 1 or 2 known
machines would ever access it.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I'd like to be able launch/open it like a folder on the desktop & view
it with a folder-browser.

Is there something I can tunnel over ssh?

Comments, thoughts, suggestions?
