How are you running Ubuntu. Is this from a Live CD? I have Hardy Heron and Firefox 3 (64-bit) runs fine. I have a problem on CENTOS (64-bit) where I don't have flash. I have not had the time to research my problem yet. On an earlier verison of Ubuntu I installed the 32-bit version. What I recommend is that you go into the Synaptic package Manager, remove firefox altogether, and reinstall it from scratch. dan moylan wrote: > running ubuntu hardy heron on ibm t41. firefox runs, but > the preferences box comes up empty. > > also calling a url from a link in a displayed page gets the > page, but putting the same url in the url box and typing > return, produces the following error message: > > ASSERT: *** Search: _installLocation: engine has no file! > Stack Trace: > 0:ENSURE_WARN(false,_installLocation: engine has no > file!,2147500037) > 1:() > 2:() > 3:() > 4:epsGetAttr([object Object],hidden) > 5:() > 6:() > 7:currentEngine() > 8:get_currentEngine() > 9:updateDisplay() > 10:init() > 11:([object XULElement],12) > > what's missing? > > dan > > j. daniel moylan > 84 harvard ave > brookline, ma 02446-6202 > 617-232-2360 (tel) > 810-454-1823 (fax) > [hidden email] > www.moylan.info > [death to html bloat!] > >
