FWIW, I've been happy with Hasweb (www.hasweb.com). They've hosted my home
email and web sites (including self-installed MediaWiki) on a shared VM
since 2006. They have SSH shell access (but you have to ask for it),
cpanel, pretty good rates, and surprisingly fast tech support via online
ticketing system; for example, I reported /tmp at 100% full at 9:27am and
they fixed it by 9:46am.
