strange unmounting problem.

Thanks for the tip. It turns out that FAM is the problem.   I checked 
/etc/fam.conf and the man page, but I didn't see a way to prevent fam from 
checking specific filesystems.

I don't really want to kill fam just to umount my smartmedia and compactflash 
card.
