OT: Open source voting machines and other gizmos (was Re: Comcast and SORBS)

Or how would THEY? :) Interestingly, on at least the Garden State, you
pay for crossing the toll booth, not by distance. Fair? I dunno, but
frankly if I'm going to be paying, I'd just as soon not have it delay me
an extra 20 minutes. At least then I get to pretend I'm getting
something! And I suppose since it's a one-shot, there are statistically
some odds of getting through.

Much like tolls that are paid only in one direction of travel, I don't
think "usage" has anything to do with it. Politics and other shenanigans
seem to drive it.

And I should mention, while AZ residents soundly rejected the notion of
toll roads, sales tax in Phoenix is now up above 8%. The independent
streak is apparently subservient to sports stadiums and other "short
term" tax increases of a different stripe (but similar smell.)

Ah, I'll check for that but hadn't noticed it previously. Still, I
harbor the hope that my NJ transponder issues a few choice profanities
every time it's read.

I meant the open-source toll booth as a bit of dry humor, but apparently
it's a hot button. Wish I could white out the original!
