Ultimately, it depends on monitoring. If you have a mechanism that will alert you to a fault then mirroring is fine. If you do not then you're probably better off keeping things as they are and using a chunk of the 1TB disk for regular, automated backups that do notify you if there is a fault. --Rich P.
