FYI, what I did was: startx second -- :1 -bpp 8 vt08 (Then I keyed off of 'second' in some scripts of my own so it didn't start up EVERYTHING on the second X session)... Also, you may not want the '-bpp 8', unless you want to force 256-bit color (I needed to do so for a particular client, which has since been fixed). -derek Frank Ramsay <fjr at marsdome.penguinpowered.com> writes: > Derek Martin wrote: > > > > On 12 Sep 2000, Frank Ramsay wrote: > > > > > I'm trying to get a second X server to come up on my computer on the > > > 'F8' console. > > > I've tried > > > X :1 > > > and > > > xinit -- /usr/X11R6/bin/X :1 > > > > What I did was run > > > > startx& > > > > then switch back to my original VC (though you shouldn't necessarily need > > to) and then I ran > > > > startx -- :1 > > > > It worked fine, although enlightenment crashed because it's not very well > > behaved when it comes to multiple sessions, in any sense of the term... > > I tried this also, it also didn't work :( > I suspect it's a bug in the driver... > > fyi, > I don't want to start a window manager, that's why > didn't mention trying startx in my post. > > > -fjr > - > Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with > "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the > message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored). -- Derek Atkins, SB '93 MIT EE, SM '95 MIT Media Laboratory Member, MIT Student Information Processing Board (SIPB) URL: http://web.mit.edu/warlord/ PP-ASEL N1NWH warlord at MIT.EDU PGP key available - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored).
