IRIX's administration tools don't work if they are displayed on an X server that isn't running on the console, and not using those GUI tools is a recipe for disaster. Last I knew, neither CATIA nor Pro/ENGINEER work properly on non-local X servers. This data is some 15 years out of date, now, but still, it's good to know that not every X app works over the network. On the other hand, VNC is free. --Rich P.
